Throwback to that time I reupholstered a leather recliner into a knock-off Pottery Barn recliner. It was quite the labor of love…and there are very few things I would never do again, but this is definitely one of them! I removed a million staples–or so it seemed. I would rather have sold a bunch of stuff and paid the premium to buy a real PB nursery rocker. I guess a few good things that came from this were 1. I still have the recliner and it has been so useful for naps and even recovery from surgeries, 2. It actually turned out cute! and 3. I now know what I am capable of doing as well as knowing I will never do it again, ha!
When I did this, I didn’t document the progress because I hated it but here are some progress pics. Then end pic definitely shows my happiness that it was OVER!
This is how it all started and for $25, it was a great project to tackle and learn on!
I started out by only disassembling one side so that if I got stuck, I would know how to put it back together by looking at the original side.
Getting to this point was about 854,033 staples removed. I wanted to quit here!
Thankfully, my sweet mother-in-law was able to pipe and sew a new seat cushion!
Total time for this project was 6 weeks. Probably only about 15 hours worth of work….but it took me days to come back to it everytime I took a break. And here you have it folks! I was about 20 weeks pregnant when I finished it and I slept on this the last trimester…which I guess is reason #4 I am glad I did this! It literally saved my sanity.
Go out, be brave, and try something new!
